Are you a new professional or student who is interested in information literacy? Would you like to become more involved with the work of the Information Literacy Group and meet other new professionals? If so, please consider applying for the ILG New Professional Committee!
The New Professionals Committee has been running since 2021, and has run some exciting projects including randomised coffee trials and launching our own podcast called ‘Chatting Info Lit’. We are now looking for some new members to help develop these projects further and bring some new ideas to the group.
The purpose of this group is to bring together new professionals (defined as having less than 5 years’ professional experience, or a student) who are interested in information literacy to contribute to the work of the Information Literacy Group (ILG). The group provides opportunities for new professionals to work with and be mentored by ILG committee members to: develop professional support for members, including through organising training, events, blog posts, etc; represent the views and experiences of new professionals to the broader ILG; and gain insight into policy and committee work.
● The committee is currently composed of 4 new professional members and 3 co-convenors from the ILG.
● We are aiming to recruit 1-2 new members.
● Sub-committee membership is open to any new professional or student who is interested in information literacy. Members do not currently have to be working in a library instructional/teaching role or be a member of CILIP to be eligible.
● These are voluntary positions, and there is no remuneration related to the posts.
● Members will be appointed by the Information Literacy Group.
● The term of office will be two or three years in the first instance, subject to review by the CILIP Information Literacy Group.
Roles and responsibilities
● The group meets online, approximately every two months, and communicates outside meetings using shared Google folders.
● We expect the time commitment to be roughly 4 hours a month.
● Members of the group take turns chairing the meeting and taking minutes.
● One representative from the group attends the quarterly ILG committee meetings (usually held online), on a rotating basis.
● Working collaboratively on projects according to members’ skills and interests.
● There may also be an opportunity to be involved in the LILAC committee as the New Professional representative during your time on the sub-committee, if interested.
● Awareness of, and interest in, current information literacy issues – ESSENTIAL
● Excellent oral and written communication skills – ESSENTIAL
● Good organisational and time management skills – ESSENTIAL
● Able to work effectively and collaboratively in a small team – ESSENTIAL
● Experience in delivering projects – DESIRABLE
We would particularly welcome applications from anyone with knowledge or experience of marketing and communications, e.g. mailing lists, or who was keen to learn.
