The Leading Light FestivIL 2021 Award

The last 12 months have been challenging and unprecedented; so we decided to run the information literacy awards a little differently this year too. It became apparent that an on-campus LILAC wouldn’t be possible for 2021, so the online event FestivIL by LILAC has been created to support the information literacy community this year. This online event, to be held over three half days in July, will focus on developing a community of practice and showcasing knowledge and experiences from a year that has been a different professional experience for many of us. To accompany FestivIL we thought a new award highlighting the information literacy community would fit well. The Leading Light award, sponsored by the University of Sheffield Information School, is for a member of the IL community who has been a local hero supporting, leading or inspiring colleagues or library users in information literacy during the last 12 months. We are inviting nominees for people or teams who have:

  • Supported, mentored or coached others in any aspect of information literacy
  • Led or inspired colleagues or library users or have gone ‘above and beyond’ with information literacy initiatives
  • Created innovative information literacy teaching or services

If you would like to nominate someone this should be done either in a written statement of up to 150 words or a video of up to 5 minutes, addressing the nominee contribution(s) in one or more areas. The deadline for nominations is 25th May 2021

One exciting change is that we will be asking the information literacy community to vote for the winner and this will not be restricted to people attending FestivIL. From the 8th June nominee details, including the written statement or video, and the voting form will be available on the FestivIL website – anyone can vote. The prize for the winner(s) of the Leading Light award will be a certificate of achievement and £150 to go to a charity of the winners choosing.

I am really looking forward to FestivIL by LILAC and seeing who will be nominated as an information literacy Leading Light. It will be a great way to celebrate the work that has been done and shine a light on our extraordinary information literacy professionals.
