Rosie Jones, LILAC Co-Chair, reports on the latest meeting of the conference committee as they make preparations for LILAC 2019, which will take place at the University of Nottingham on April 24-26, 2019.
Friday, September 14 saw the LILAC committee all assemble at Nottingham to see our 2019 conference venue and to share how our plans are progressing. It is usually a lively occasion when the committee gets together; we all get on extremely well and we often haven’t seen each other for a while. This meeting was also a chance for us to catch up with our new local representatives and to make sure they feel supported by the group.
We all arrived into Nottingham around lunch and managed to convince the University of Nottingham open day helpers that we were new students so that we could enjoy a trip on the welcome buses to the University!
On arrival at Nottingham, we were met by our local reps who are proving to be brilliantly organised and highly enthusiastic. We were able to sample and make decisions on the lunches our delegates will be eating – an extremely strenuous and difficult decision to make and one we take very seriously! Our meeting then turned to updates on key conference activities including the recently-announced keynotes, the evening events, call for papers and bursaries. There was also some discussion around new developments and initiatives – as a committee we continually look to update and innovate when it comes to the conference – so watch this space!
After the main meeting we were then able to tour the venue we will be using for the conference itself. We’re delighted with it – the rooms are great and the location works well. We will be meeting again in November but keep an eye on this blog, the LILAC pages and both the LILAC and ILG Twitter accounts to hear more of our developments.
It won’t be long now until the call for papers so get your thinking caps on and your submissions ready. Nottingham is looking already like it will be a fabulous LILAC conference!
