Meet the ILG Comms Team: Sam Gill

What is your role on the committee?

Sam Gill, LibrarianI recently became a member of the Comms Team so I could support the work of the CILIP Information Literacy Group. I will be creating and posting content and promoting debate and knowledge exchange wherever possible.

When did you join and why?

In Spring 2023, I accepted the role of Comms Officer at ILG. I am trying to expand my knowledge of the library sector and push myself out of my comfort zone so I thought I would have a go at giving something back to the library sector that has been so good to me throughout my career.

What do you do in your role?

As a fresh-faced debutante in the Comms Team, I’m still learning the role, but I’m excited to help promote the work ILG is doing. So far, I’ve been involved in reviewing blog posts, creating social media content, and responding to emails in the ILG Comms inbox.

What is your day job?

I was recently installed permanently as the Liasion Librarian for Histories, Languages and Cultures at the University of Liverpool. It is a dream job for me, and one of my favourite things about it is the abundant variety involved in the role – from teaching information literacy, to organising events for schools, attending lectures from visiting academics, producing social media posts, interacting with students and working with other teams around the university, you never know what tomorrow will bring.

What are your other interests?

I have two children aged 6 and 10 who keep me pretty well occupied, but I spend any spare time I can find engaged in various creative pursuits, creating stop motion animations, lino prints, paintings and collage (you can see some examples here) as well as playing drums and keyboards in bands around Liverpool.
