Coffee Meeting

Meet the IL Website Team: Suzi Hall

What is your role on the committee?

I am one of the newly appointed web editors of the IL website. The website editorial team is a sub-group of the CILIP Information Literacy Group.

When did you join and why?

I have been involved with the ILG website since March this year – and can’t believe how much time has flown by since then! I initially got involved with the group after meeting their members at LILAC (and working with one or two of them over the years), and wanting to be more involved with the ILG in particular, and information literacy practice in general. My day job is a relatively specialist one, so my role on the committee helps me keep informed and engaged with information literacy in a wider context and thereby hopefully improve on my own practice.

What do you do in your role?

The purpose of my role is to help keep the website running and up-to-date, working  alongside the others on the IL website team. This involves editing posts for the blog, answering email enquiries sent through from the website, and keep an eye on our social media channels. We’re all up to a lot in the background too, that you don’t see on the website day-to-day, such as planning new content and changes to some of the pages, to keep everything current. So watch this space!

What is your day job?

I am a Subject Librarian at the Arts University Bournemouth, supporting the Fashion, Costume and Graphic Design departments. I teach information literacy skills to both staff and students in my departments, and support them with research and referencing queries. I also work closely alongside the teaching and research staff at the university, ensuring that the library resources meet the needs of the students. The library is home to a wide range of collections, from artists’ books and zines, to fashion publications, design magazines, and trend-forecasting services, alongside more traditional academic texts.

Supporting arts students a varied and interesting role, as they have a diverse range of informational needs – so no two days are alike!

What are your other interests?

I have been collecting and wearing vintage clothing for many years – something that very much feeds back into my work as a fashion and costume librarian! I also love to travel, and usually visit Shanghai, where my partner is from, at least once a year.
