Meet the IL Group Committee: Rebecca Mogg

What is your role on the committee?
I’m the Deputy Chair of the ILG.

When did you join and why?Rebecca Mogg
I joined the ILG when it was first established as a sub-group of the Community Services Special Interest Group in 2004. My role at Cardiff University included information literacy development and so I was keen to get involved in the Group as it was aiming to raise awareness and improve support for information literacy on a national level. Before becoming Deputy Chair, my first role on the Committee was as the Membership Secretary and I was also involved in the LILAC Committee for five years.

What do you do in your committee role?
Support our Chair, Nancy Graham, with whatever needs doing! This includes writing the Group’s Annual Business Plan and Action Plan, recruiting new Committee members, helping to respond to consultations from CILIP, Government and other bodies involved in IL and representing the Group at events and meetings. At the moment, I’m organising the Group’s contribution to the CILIP Debates.

What is your day job?
I’ve just returned from 12 months maternity leave to my role as Senior Subject Librarian: Academic Liaison at Cardiff University. This includes responsibility for information literacy development at Cardiff University. Our Subject Librarians deliver a very active programme of information literacy to our taught and research students and academic staff. Our IL team and working group is continually looking to support this work and we have developed a wide range of resources to support staff and students which include our Information Literacy Resource Bank and Handbook for Information Literacy Teaching.

What are your other interests?
Outside of work, I spend the majority of my time entertaining/trying to keep up with my very active one year old son! I also try to keep fit by cycling to work and doing a few gym classes a week.
