Meet the Committee: Niamh Kelly

What is your role in the committee?
I’m a member of the New Professionals sub-committee for Information Literacy. I’m joining from the further education sector.
When did you join and why?
I joined the committee in August 2025. I’m in my second year of my MA in Library and Information Service Management and I’ve really enjoyed the focus on information literacy. I wanted to join the committee because the more I researched and learnt about information literacy, the more I realised how fundamental it is. I’ve worked in all levels of education (primary, secondary, further and higher) but I’m particularly interested in information literacy for young adults and adult learns, especially through further education.
What is your day job?
I work in The Sheffield College library. My role is really varied and involves curriculum liaison, collections, cataloguing, library projects and more. I’m looking forward to working on more information literacy support in my role.
What are your other interests?
Outside of work I enjoy all things creative from dancing and music to making clothes. I live in Sheffield so I like to get outdoors for a walk, cycle or a cold water swim.
