What is your role in the committee?
I am a member of the Information Literacy Group’s sub-committee for New Professionals.
When did you join and why?
I have only recently joined the ILG New Professionals Committee, in May 2024. Last year, I was able to attend the 2023 LILAC conference in Cambridge. I enjoyed engaging with the breadth and variety of IL issues discussed, and learnt more about health IL and workplace IL. This encouraged me to undertake the ‘Information Literacy’ module in my second year of the Library and Information Studies Masters at UCL, where I engaged with issues relating to critical IL and everyday IL. These experiences have sparked a real interest in IL, and along with my desire to meet other information professionals new to the industry, have led me to joining the committee.
What is your day job?
I am currently working as a Library and Archives Audit Assistant at the Natural History Museum. The Museum is engaging in a large-scale project to relocate sections of its collections (including specimens and associated library material) to a new digitisation centre. Ahead of the move, a full audit process is taking place to ensure the library collections are registered, catalogued, and itemised correctly on the Library Management System. I’m working with a team to help ensure that everything is accounted for and in good condition before the big move!
What are your other interests?
In my free time, I enjoy making the most of the cultural life London has to offer – going to gallery and museum exhibitions, music gigs, and theatre/comedy shows. I like being in the outdoors and enjoy walking holidays, as well as running – I’ve recently started doing my local Park Run! And of course, staying true to brand, I love reading fiction novels in my spare time.
