Headshot of Ella Wharton, Events Officer at Information Literacy Group

Meet the Committee: Ella Wharton, ILG Events Officer

What is your role on the committee?
I am joining the Information Literacy Group as the Events Officer. I have previously been on the ILG New Professionals Committee.

When did you join and why?
Having thoroughly enjoyed my time on the ILG New Professionals Sub-committee (2022-24), I am very excited to join the ILG! My previous experiences working with the ILG and on the LILAC committee as the New Professional representative were really rewarding, so I am looking forward to working with everyone in this role. I am passionate about information literacy, and I really love feeling like I’ve helped people, so with all the current developments in Information Literacy, I am looking forward to planning some exciting IL events in the future!

What do you do in your role?
I’ve only just started, but I’ve collaborated on ILG events as part of the New Professionals group, and I’m really looking forward to expanding on that with the ILG. Moving forward, I am excited to see what events I can plan with the ILG to support a range of sectors!

What is your day job?
I am a Learning Development Librarian (Information Skills) at the University of Nottingham. I teach students about information literacy in searching, evaluating and managing information, and that includes designing async learning resources and planning teaching events. I really love supporting students in this role, and am looking forward to having a wider impact in the profession!

What are your other interests?
If you read my previous New Professionals blog, you will know I’m a huge fan of podcasts (shout out to Chatting Info Lit!) I really enjoy live music, in particular indie bands, so I’ve been to about 10 gigs so far this year! And I love art, and making things, so I’ll often have a new project on the go! I’m quite a busy person, so I’m often travelling to different cities to see gigs and shows, but I also really love chilling out at home!
