ILG Sub-Committee for New Professionals – Introducing Katie Wise

We will be introducing the new members of the ILG Sub-Committee for New Professionals over a series of posts. The purpose of this group is to bring together new library professionals and contribute towards the work of the Information Literacy Group. First up is Katie Wise…

What is your role on the committee?

I am a member of the ILG Sub-Committee for New Professionals.

When did you join and why?

The sub-committee was set up in summer of 2021 and we had our first meeting in July to meet the rest of the sub-committee and discuss ideas. I applied to be part of the sub-committee because I’ve only been working in the library sector as a new professional for eighteen months, and I am really keen to help provide resources and support to other new professionals. Information Literacy has always been something I’m passionate about, especially digital literacy, so having the chance to work with the Information Literacy Group is amazing.

What do you do in your role?

As we have only recently set up the sub-committee, we are still working out ideas and how the group can support new professionals. But our first meeting was incredibly positive, with so much enthusiasm and a range of skills, so I’m so excited to see what we come up with and how we progress in the future!

What is your day job?

I am the Library Assistant at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in Reading. As well as helping our library users with articles, books and e-resources, I also work on several library projects including the library marketing, reviewing the book stock, and running our virtual book groups and shared reading sessions.

What are your other interests?

I’m quite a house mouse so I love the autumn when I can snuggle up with books or jigsaw puzzles. I’m a hug fan of Christmas so during lockdown I taught myself to knit and proceeded to knit myself a reindeer Christmas jumper! Also, I’m really passionate about the environment and my dream would be to go plastic free.

Thanks to Katie for her post and please get in touch with us if you’d like to find out more.
