Deadline approaching for ECIL 2016 bursary applications

Would you benefit from attending the European Conference on Information Literacy (ECIL) in October 2016? Good news! The CILIP Information Literacy Group is offering a bursary to cover:

  • the full conference fee
  • £70 accommodation for 3 nights (£210)
  • a flight up to the cost of £250
  • additional expenses of up to £100 to cover any additional travel and meals as required

ECIL 2016 will be held at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, from 10-13th October 2016. This is the fourth European Conference on Information Literacy, a key event in the IL calendar that attracts delegates from around the world and is supported by IFLA and UNESCO. The keynotes this year include Tara Brabazon, Dean of Graduate Research at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia.

This bursary is only available to CILIP Information Literacy Group members. Preference will be given to someone who has not attended ECIL previously, and who would not otherwise be able to attend the conference. Please note that your place will be booked at the conference, but the successful applicant will need to arrange their own travel and accommodation. Receipts will be required for any additional expenses that delegates wish to claim.

In exchange for funding your attendance at the conference, the CILIP IL Group would require: a short report for the Information Literacy website; a conference report of up to 1,000 words to be published in the Journal of Information Literacy; and help promoting the CILIP IL Group at the conference itself.

If you are interested in applying for this bursary, please submit a 400-800 word statement, including evidence of how attendance at ECIL will benefit you professionally and also how you might disseminate your experience more widely to colleagues.

Applicants should should submit a completed copy of the IL sponsorship form to Catherine McManamon, IL Group Training Officer, by email: cmc@liv.ac.uk. Please note that the financial section does not need to be completed.

The deadline for applications is 22 June 2016.
