Meet the LILAC Committee: Chris Thorpe

What is your role on the committee?

I’m the Venue Co-ordinator.

When did you join and why?

I joined over the summer 2023. I joined for several reasons really. I was looking to develop my career
further and this seemed like a good opportunity, particularly as I enjoy helping to organise our staff
away day at work. Plus, I often find it difficult to take time to keep up with developments across the
sector and engage with IL related literature: I figured by joining the LILAC Team I’d gain extra
motivation to know what’s going on.

What do you do in your role?

My key function is to liaise with the local representatives/organisers and to be their first point of
contact for enquiries, problems and issues. As I’m relatively new in post I’m still getting to grips with
all the things, but luckily everyone on the Committee is lovely, helpful, and (more importantly)
patient!

What is your day job?

I am a Subject Librarian for Health & Psychological Sciences at City, University of London. I’ve been
at City for 13 years and in my current role since 2018. Essentially, I buy things, teach things and
answer questions about things all related to Library Services, with a focus on supporting students
and staff in the Nursing and Psychology departments.

What are your other interests?

Tennis, Strictly Come Dancing, and running very slowly around Hackney Marshes and the lower Lea
Valley. Oh, and I have been known to quiz every now and then…
