Meet the IL Group Committee: Rowena Macrae-Gibson

What is your role
I am the ILG Membership Secretary

RowenaWhen did you join and why
I joined in summer 2013.  I put myself forward as I wanted to keep my knowledge of information literacy up to date, and to be able to learn from a group of inspiring colleagues. I believe passionately in the importance of information literacy and get excited by new ideas and opportunities. Being involved is such a positive experience and has put me in touch with a network of fantastic colleagues. I was also looking to return to the CILIP committee experience, wanting to expand beyond my then day job (I have changed jobs since then) and to try and give something back to the profession.

What do you do in your committee role?
As well as contributing to general committee business, I coordinate, edit and send out our email member newsletters. I respond to any queries which come to our info lit email account. I regularly review and analyse our membership figures, noting growth and trends, such as members in sectors other than HE. I manage our jiscmail mailing list, lis-infoliteracy. I suggest things that can be member benefits such as discounts at LILAC. I also contribute to our twitter account.

What is your day job?
I am Head of Library Academic Services at Brunel University London. I manage our team of nine subject liaison librarians and the special collections librarian, making sure that library services match student and staff needs. We’ve recently launched our new LibSmart programme of support including workshops, drop ins, cafes, chat and 1-2-1s which I am very excited about! I am also a member of the Library Management Team.

What are your other interests
I like getting out and about and am fortunate to live within short bus and train rides of some beautiful countryside. I also love opera and ballet and would live in Covent Garden if I could!
