What is your role in the Committee?
I am a member of the Information Literacy Group’s sub-committee for New Professionals.
When did you join and why?
As much of my day-to-day work involves delivering information literacy training to clinical staff, I have become particularly interested in information literacy, and health literacy in particular. This has led me to further explore IL during my MA, and the recent committee opening seemed an ideal opportunity to deepen my understanding, and connect with other new professionals.
What is your day job?
I’m currently a Trainee Outreach Librarian at an NHS Trust. Most of my role consists of conducting evidence searches for our users, delivering reference and database searching training sessions, and attending journal clubs to answer any questions clinicians might have about finding evidence. Some other projects I have been working on include supporting reading groups, working on a clinical outreach project to highlight the library’s resources and services to a wide range of hospital departments, and creating a library escape room. I really enjoy the diversity of tasks and responsibilities I have been given in my role and learning more about the ways in which library services can support healthcare workers and patient care.
What are your other interests?
I mostly enjoy a good book, and a historical fiction novel or detective story will keep me suitably entertained after work! I also like to knit and crochet.
