What is your role on the committee?
I am taking over the role of Treasurer for the ILG and LILAC groups.
When did you join and why?
In 2016 I ended up winning the public library bursary to attend LILAC when it was held in Dublin, a conference which not only changed the way I thought about information literacy, but which also helped to provide me with tools and ideas which I ended up using under a month later when I applied for current role. About six months alter I saw that LILAC were advertising for new committee members so I applied and have been part of the team ever since.
What do you do in your committee role?
As I’m taking over this role, I would assume that my job will be to ensure that all the bills get paid and that we don’t overspend. I’m currently the treasurer for the YLG London sub-committee, so I do have experience in this area and with dealing with CILIP, external suppliers, our bank and committee members to make sure that everything is done on time. Alongside this I will assist with preparing any financial plans, and then reviewing them to ensure they have been met.
What is your day job?
I am the Academic Resource Centre (ARC) Manager for Henley Business School, which is part of the University of Reading. In this role I oversee our two ARCs and the staff who work in them, ensuring that both sites are equipped with the right resources and information to serve the students who use them. My role is less frontline based and is more about dealing with the various stakeholders across the university to promote our services, keep our resources up to date, and to develop our offerings. Alongside this I deal with our database providers, control our budget, organise staff and student training, and perform all the other diverse roles which are required to ensure a modern library is run appropriately.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I have two children and a very understanding wife who doesn’t get too annoyed that I seem to always be heading off to events and abandoning them all in the name of librarianship! I enjoy climbing and wargaming, but not at the same time obviously. As this year’s LILAC is held in Nottingham which is one of the key centres of the wargaming industry, it could prove expensive for me…
