Information Literacy Group vacancy: Further Education Representative

The CILIP Information Literacy Group have an exciting opening to join our team. We are recruiting for a Further Education (FE) representative to share their professional knowledge of their sector.

We are looking for applicants who will be able to emphasise the transitional Information Literacy needs of Further Education students and the specificities of supporting lecturers with an industry background.

Applicants should have experience of committee work (not necessarily with CILIP), and be based in the UK. Applicants should be members of CILIP (or willing to join). Affiliations to JISC or COLRIC would be desirable.

We particularly welcome applications from under-represented communities and sectors. Candidates from BAME or other minority or under-represented communities may be eligible for free membership. Please contact membership@cilip.org.uk for details.

Applications should include the following:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement detailing your experience and how you meet the person specification
  • Statement of support from your line manager.

Please send the above to info.ilg@cilip.org.uk by Monday, March 14th, 2022.

Our recent FE Representatives had the following to say about volunteering for this role:

Anne-Lise Harding

“I would highly recommend applying for the position of Further Education representative. It is a great opportunity for learning more about your own sector and putting it in the context of Information Literacy research. My professional practice has benefited from exposure to the latest developments and communities of praxis in the field of Information Literacy and I am able to make a valuable contribution back to Further Education. Joining the Information Literacy Group, I never imagined the breadth of opportunities available and the inspirational practitioners I would meet.” – Anne-Lise Harding, FE Representative (2015-2019).

Liz White

“Standing on the ILG Committee as FE Sector rep was a great experience that I would strongly recommend you apply for. It helped me to focus on my own professional practice by allowing me to experience different perspectives on information literacy, and then examine how IL is developed and experienced by FE students. This awareness meant that I developed my own work to enable more opportunities for the students I worked with to develop their own IL. I was only on the committee for a short time, and thanks to the pandemic never made it to an in-person meeting! However, the Committee made me feel very welcome via Zoom and I was sad to have to step down when I was offered a role outside of the FE Sector.” – Liz White, FE Representative (2020-2021).
