Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2020

Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2020 – get involved!

Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2020 will this year take place from October 24th-31st. As part of the event, the Republic of Korea will host a conference on the theme Resisting Disinfodemic: Media and Information Literacy for Everyone and by Everyone.

Beyond the conference, UNESCO and The Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) are inviting libraries around the world to get involved in Global MIL Week by holding side events. These events will be featured online on the Global MIL Map.

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is a member of the international organizing committee and is encouraging colleagues to arrange side events in their libraries. A side event can be anything – big or small – that engages an audience with media and information literacy. Events are encouraged to be virtual, and can be held at any time during the month of October.

For libraries, events might include:

  • Curating and sharing a selection of books, e-books, and children’s stories from your collection on topics related to Media & Information Literacy (MIL)
  • Compiling educational resources into an online resource on MIL
  • Hosting a virtual event (live or pre-recorded) such as a webinar, panel discussion, quiz, or story-time
  • Engaging with your community on social media with a post raising awareness on MIL

If you’re organising an event, we’d love to hear about it and would be happy to promote it here. Contact us at ilwebeditors@gmail.com
