What is your role in the committee?
I am a member of the ILG New Professionals sub-committee.
When did you join and why?
I joined in August 2025. I was first introduced to the concept of ‘information literacy’ during my master’s degree and was fortunate enough to attend LILAC on a student bursary which was an eye-opening and inspirational event. As a former English teacher, I helped develop students’ critical thinking and analytical skills and I feel fortunate to continue this in my current role.
What is your day job?
I am a Library Learning Adviser at Manchester Metropolitan University Library. I primarily teach infoskills sessions which are open to all students and staff throughout the academic year and get to support the academic liaison librarians and work on interesting projects across the library and university. For example, I have worked on creating guidance around citing and referencing generative AI in assignments, worked on an accessibility audit of library teaching resources and developed and delivered library sessions aimed at first generation students thinking about applying to university.
What are your other interests?
I love reading and reviewing books over on my Instagram page where I mainly post about contemporary and translated fiction and poetry that I have borrowed from various libraries (I am a big fan of poetry libraries – it’s what I wrote my MA dissertation on – and feel very lucky to live in one of the few places in the country with its very own dedicated poetry library). I also enjoy making the most of my monthly film pass and go to the cinema quite often!
