Meet the ILG Committee: Kat Halliday

What is your role on the committee?
I am one of the Training Officers.

When did you join and why?
I joined in August 2021.

I’d attended the LILAC conference in 2019 and really gained a lot of professional knowledge and met some exceptionally talented people from it, so when this opportunity came up, I was excited to be able to work with those people and to be part of something which had been invaluable to me as a developing practitioner. When I joined just as the “Online Media Literacy Strategy” was unveiled and it really made me refocus on the importance of digital and information literacy and it felt like such a good time to be able to raise awareness and support new and experienced practioners of Information Literacy across sectors.

What do you do in your committee role?
As training officer, I am responsible for the group’s training programme, this involves arranging training which is suitable and reflects the needs of all of our members.

What is your day job?
I am the Academic support Librarian for Warwick Business school where I support nearly 19,000 students both on campus and on distance courses. This work involves a range of different elements, the main one being designing and delivering a suite of Information Literacy skills sessions to a wide range of students on campus or via Microsoft Teams. In addition, I am part of the Library’s diversifying working group which looks critically at our teaching, collections and archive to support the wider Universities strategy on diversity and decolonisation. I am also part of the Anti-racist and Queer and Trans pedagogy learning circles and co lead the “Library Associates” scheme which is a library project to engage and partner with student users of the Library on a broad range of topics.

What are your other interests?
I love live music and as a former musician I attend as many live music events as I can, my favourite artist will always be Nick Cave. I also have a love of anything creative especially crafts; my current obsession is loom weaving and macrame. I also love the great outdoors and my dog gives me the perfect excuse for a long walk across the fields.
